Hello people! I can’t believe that it is the last day of 2021, the time has passed so quickly and it’s honestly scary. I’m here with the last weekly SEO news for the year so here’s a quick breakdown:

• Tiktok overtakes Google’s top domain spot
• Google Business Profile adds an option called “Mark as Special” to Products
• Google Search Console’s Link Report is not a priority for Google 
• Minor Google Search Ranking algorithm jolt around December 27 and 28

27/12/2021- TikTok overtakes Google’s top domain spot

This was actually reported last week but we didn’t manage to report it in last week’s SEO news. 

TikTok has overtaken Google as the most popular domain globally based on annual rankings from Cloudfare. They were ranked 7th last year when Google was 1st.

That being said, this doesn’t mean that they’re the top social media website yet. Currently, they’re only the 3rd largest social media platform. Getting the top domain merely means that they got the most traffic. 

The Top 10 domains were as such:

1. Tiktok.com
2. Google.com
3. Facebook.com
4. Microsoft.com
5. Apple.com
6. Amazon.com
7. Netflix.com
8. Youtube.com
9. Twitter.com
10. WhatsApp.com

28/12/2021- Google Business Profile adds an option called “Mark as Special” to Products

Google Business Profile has added a new check box under Product called “Mark as Special” that will show that product at the top of the page in Google Search. 

This feature is likely still being tested as not many people can see this.

29/12/2021- Google Search Console’s Link Report is not a priority for Google 

Someone asked Google’s John Mueller why the pipeline to get data into the link report within Google Search Console seems slower than other reports. He responded that links are not an area that SEOs should focus too much on which is why the report is not an area that Google thinks they should spend their resources on.

Google has been somewhat vocal about their unfavorable views about links and this is just another thing to add to the list.

30/12/2021- Minor Google Search ranking algorithm jolt around December 27 and 28

There was a slight jolt in Google search ranking algorithms as tons of SEOs are surprised by the sudden boost in traffic and overall numbers. It’s unlikely that Google put something out over the holidays but maybe some random change was made.
